Smart Fertilizer & Irrigation Control

Pawan Farm's ten-greenhouse operation in Vientiane Capital moved from manual fertiliser mixing and fixed pump schedules to a fully automated, cloud-connected system that controls nutrients, irrigation, and ventilation in real time.

Background

Pawan Farm operates a multi-greenhouse vegetable farm on the outskirts of Vientiane Capital. The operation demands consistent nutrient delivery, precise watering schedules, and reliable climate control to produce quality vegetables year-round.

Challenge

Managing fertiliser concentration, irrigation timing, and fan ventilation manually across ten greenhouses was labour-intensive and inconsistent. Variations in nutrient mixing led to uneven crop performance. Pumps and fans ran on fixed schedules regardless of actual soil or air conditions, inflating energy costs without improving outcomes.

Approach

Sensornode deployed a fully automated Smart Fertilizer and Irrigation Control system. A PLC-controlled dosing unit blends fertiliser automatically at precise EC setpoints with continuous pH monitoring. Each greenhouse has an independently controlled water valve that can be triggered on schedule or operated remotely via mobile or desktop. Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) on pumps optimise energy use, and ventilation fans respond to live temperature and humidity readings. All data streams to a cloud application server accessible on any device.

Outcomes

Greenhouse Scheduling

Set automated watering schedules per greenhouse and monitor live status across all greenhouses.

Fertilizer Precision

EC setpoint control, real-time pH monitoring, and an automatic mixer tank for hands-free nutrient blending.

Smart Ventilation

Temperature and humidity are monitored continuously. Alarm spots identify the hottest and coolest zones for targeted investigation. Fans operate in both automatic (sensor-driven) and manual modes.

Cloud Dashboard

A cloud application server aggregates all data — accessible from desktop, mobile, and tablet for remote farm management.

Valve Control

Each greenhouse has independently controllable water valves with live open/closed status visible on the dashboard.
